October has been a weird month, and I’ve only gotten to play my Jack the Ripper Cube twice.
The Vanguard aspect was fun as something different, but it’s so off-theme that it’s hard for me to get in to it as much as I’d hoped. I wish I’d been able to just do normal Commander, I just couldn’t get that to work with the Jack the Ripper theme. The Vanguards were Planeswalkers. I worked hard to find an appropriate power balance, but some were still too powerful, like Nicol Bolas, God-Pharaoh. And I had fun playing Dack Fayden, but he basically brought the game to a halt. So I’m not sure if I want to cut that out of future games or what.
Last Sunday, we didn’t have time for a full draft, so we played a Pack Wars version, which was really fun. When I built packs for this Cube, I followed the typical rarity order: 10 common, 3 uncommon, 1 rare, 1 land, and a mythic in 1 out of 8 packs. Which meant Pack Wars were balanced, and now I’m thinking of what would a Cube built for Pack Wars look like?
